No Figma for the first 2 days

No Figma for the first 2 days

New rule in our team: the first two days of every project, no Figma allowed. Paper, whiteboard, ugly boxes. Not my sketches in the photo (mine are much uglier ahah) but this is the mood. Week 3 of the experiment: fewer revisions, more arguments, the good kind ✨

Can confirm the arguments are better. Nobody defends a sticky note the way they defend a polished frame.

Figma fatigue is real: 6 things I stopped doing (and my developpers are happier)

I love Figma. I also have 34 tabs of Figma open right now and my laptop fan sounds like a Vespa. So, some things I stopped doing this year. Not a manifesto, just what worked for our team ✨ 1. I stopped designing every state as a separate frame Hover, pressed, disabled, loading, error, empty... times 3 breakpoints, times light and dark. That's how you get 400 frames for one form. Now: one component with variants for…

Same with the Figma to Flutter tools machane, the generated widget tree is like 14 Containers deep. I have a whole post about it in my head, will write it 😂

a design system, but make it Napoli

a design system, but make it Napoli

Allora. Pizza is the best design system ever made. 3 core components (dough, tomato, mozzarella), strict tokens (the oven is 485°C, not "warm"), a clear spacing scale (the cornicione), and centuries of documentation. If you add pineapple you are not "extending the system", you are making a fork that nobody will maintain 🤌 (not my pizza, mine was eaten before the photo, like every good prototype)

In the Netherlands we have pizza with döner on it. I will not defend it. It is very good.

Our design system had 47 greys. Now it has 9 (and some semantic tokens)

Allora. Last month I opened our Figma library and counted the greys. Not the colours, only the greys. 47 ✨. Forty-seven! Some were different by one hex digit, like #F4F4F4 and #F5F5F5, and both were used in production for "background light". Boh. This is how we cleaned it, in a fintech app with two squads, one designer (me) and a lot of developpers who are very patient with me. 1. The audit (boring, necessary) I did…

I found this from the figma_fatigue topic and I have to say, the part about people who can't read the grey just leaving instead of complaining is exactly what we saw in our checkout research. Thank you for writing it so clearly 💛
