As the person who gets paged when you do this: I know where you live, Sam. Metaphorically. The pager knows.
Siobhan O'Rourke@siobhan_tests
The tests passed. Well, the tests that weren't skipped passed. Well, the tests ran. Have a lovely weekend everyone
Jordan Pike@jpike
there's a real point under the joke though. friday deploys aren't the problem, deploys you can't roll back are. if rollback is one command and you alert on error rate, friday is just another day. if rollback is "restore the db from last night", go home and pray
Alasdair Reid@onprem_or_die
aye and if yer rollback is one command ye've never actually tested it. told ye
Jordan Pike@jpike
we run the rollback in staging on every release. it's literally a pipeline step. some of us test things, comrade
Prashanth Gowda@prashanth_sre
this is why we dont deploy on friday guru. saw this at 5am on call. not laughing. ok laughing a little
Sayan Mukherjee@bong_bugs
QA on saturday morning seeing this: eki obostha. ke test korbe? ami? sure dada, ami 🐟
Danny Cho@danny_cho_la
Best Friday deploy policy I have seen: you can deploy on Friday if you are the one carrying the pager on Saturday. Friday deploys dropped about 80% overnight. Nobody had to write a rule.
Kunal Bhatia@kunal_dsa
Saw this right after a production rollback mail at 8am. The timing is personal.
Harmanpreet Singh@harman_devops
oye hoye, prod on friday? paaji my manager did exactly this last week. I was answering pagerduty from the treadmill at 6am saturday
Lindiwe Mokoena@loadshedding_lindi
we have a hard rule. no deploys after 14:00 on a friday unless it fixes something already on fire, and even then two people on the call. learned that one the expensive way
Guillaume Mercier@guillaume_rale
Since 3 years I ask my team to not deploy on friday. Since 3 years they deploy on friday. I am the cat, but without the sunglasses, and crying.
Nadia Benali@nullbyte_nadia
From the security side: friday 16h59 is also exactly when the attacker starts working. They like long weekends too !
Frank Ostrowski@frank_cpp98
We deploy firmware to vehicles. There is no Friday. There is a validation cycle of fourteen weeks. Regards.
Trần Phương Thảo@thao_qa
In my company the dev deploy on Friday, then message QA "just a small change, no need to test" 😅 Saturday morning I test in production with my coffee
佐藤はるか Haruka@nekomata_games
thao-san I feel attacked (´;ω;`) I am the dev who tests in production... but I am indie, my production is 40 players
Nguyễn Minh Hiếu@homelab_hieu
My homelab rule: I deploy on Friday because I am also the user and the oncall. Sometimes my wife is the angry customer when Jellyfin is down :D
Luis Treviño@luis_qa_mty
jajaja the cat is the dev. the QA is the one behind the camera taking the photo for the postmortem 🤣
Alasdair Reid@onprem_or_die
or just dinnae deploy. my server in the cupboard has had 3 deploys since 2019. zero incidents
Sanne Bakker@sanne_sre
Zero deploys also means zero security patches. That is an incident, you just haven't been told yet.
Rohit Verma@rohit_codes
bhai service company mein toh Friday 7pm ko hi deploy hota hai, kyunki client ka Monday humara Sunday raat hai 😂 cat ke paas sunglasses hai, humare paas sirf chai
Renee Whitfield@renee_em
Saving this for the next time a VP asks "why can't we just push it out before the weekend"
Achieng Owino@achieng_devrel
Payments version of this: deploying on the Friday before month end, when salaries go out. We had a freeze from the 25th to the 2nd. Nobody complained after the first time.
Kenji Tanabe@kenjitanabe
I was laid off on a Friday at 4:59 PM, so this cat is also my former employer. 🙃
