Sending this to everyone who asks me how to start with Home Assistant. Michael Leen's walkthrough is the clearest one I've found. Two things I'd add: put HA OS on an SSD not an SD card, and give it a DHCP reservation before you set up a single integration. 🔧

HA on an old PC in the shed here, rock solid for 2 years. the Pi 4 I had before cooked itself in summer. chur for posting, sending this to my neighbour who keeps asking

+1 for DHCP reservation. also: take a backup and copy it OFF the Pi. HA backup sitting on the same SSD is not backup :)

The energy dashboard is for me the best part of Home Assistant. I have the heat pump and the PV in it, and since March we have had 41% self consumption, which I would not know without it. One advice: integrate the energy meter by the local API, not by the cloud of the vendor. When the cloud is down your history has holes.
