Welcome to Wars, Votes and Wires. Please read before posting

Hi all. I made this topic because war and politics threads kept appearing in other places, in a Postgres question, in a remote work post, under a meme, and every time it became a mess. But I also do not think we can pretend tech is separate. Sanctions decide who can use npm. Shutdowns decide who can talk to their clients. Cheap drones changed what a "hardware hobbyist" is. Chips are geopolitics now. So here is a place for it.

Who I am, so you know my bias

I am from Zaporizhzhia, in Kraków since March 2022, backend dev by day, OSINT by evening. I am pro-Ukraine and I will not pretend otherwise. This is exactly why I debunk fakes from my side as fast as from the other side. Bias you admit is bias you can control.

Three labels

When you post something as a fact, please use one of these, in the post or in the comment:

• CONFIRMED: you have a source, linked. Ideally two independent ones.
• UNCONFIRMED: you saw it, it may be true, you could not verify. This is fine! Just say it.
• OPINION: what you think. Also fine. Most of this topic will be opinion, and lived experience, which is the most valuable thing here.

What gets removed

• Attacks on people for nationality, ethnicity, religion. Criticise governments, armies, politicians as hard as you want, including mine and the one where I live now.
• Graphic content. Describe, do not post.
• Doxxing. Even with good intentions. Especially with good intentions.

What I hope to see

How you work through blackouts. What sanctions do to your toolchain. How your country's election looks from inside. Data, maps, scraping, verification methods. Arguments, yes, even angry ones, as long as you argue with the post and not the person.

That's all. Welcome)
