systemd haters will tell you their 14 shell scripts and a cron job are "simpler" than one unit file with a proper dependency graph and logging. they are not simpler. they are just yours, and you are emotionally attached to them. one unit file. please. for me

my 14 shell scripts have run since 2011 and i can read every line. your unit file calls into a binary blob that controls boot, logging, dns and your toaster. simpler is not the word i would fight you on, honest is. away and journalctl yer feelings.

i KNEW it would be you first. "journalctl yer feelings" is actually good, i am stealing it. but you are proving my point, you can read your 14 scripts because they are YOURS, nobody else can, that is not simplicity that is a hostage situation 😌

I have been on both sides of this war since before systemd existed and I will say only this: the day a well written unit file restarted a service cleanly at 4am without paging me, I quietly stopped fighting it. Do not tell Alasdair I said that.

unit file with Restart=on-failure and a journal has saved me so many times, i will never go back to the shell script and pid file dance :) sorry onprem
