hit £1,000 MRR today. some honest context because these posts usually skip it
Contents
£1,042 MRR as of this morning. 31 paying groomers, 1 in ireland, 2 in the netherlands (VAT sorted, thanks to this site honestly). im very happy and also want to put some context next to the number, because "£1k MRR!!" posts always skip the boring bits.
its not a salary
after stripe fees, SMS costs (around £140 a month now), hosting, my accountant and the domain i keep forgetting to renew, i take home roughly £700 a month before tax. i still do 2 days a week of contract work. this is month 9 of the business, i started building in january.
what got the customers
- going in person. 14 of 31 customers came from me walking into a salon with a laptop and a box of biscuits. for the humans not the dogs. well, both
- one groomer posting about me in a regional groomers facebook group. that one post brought 9 trials and 6 customers. word of mouth in a tight trade is unreal
- the onboarding call. almost everyone who does a 20 min setup call with me ends up paying
what didnt
- £300 on search ads. 1 customer. shes lovely but she cost me £300
- SEO blog posts about "how to start a grooming business". lots of traffic, zero groomers who already have a business, which is who i sell to
- building online booking because one prospect said she'd sign up if i had it. she didnt sign up
next goal is £2k so i can drop a contract day. if youre earlier in this, the honest version is: it was slow, it was mostly phone calls and biscuits, and the product is the least interesting part of the story.
